Darnit!

Um, yeah...

...not quite the neckline I was going for. Let's take a closer look, shall we?

And the darn thing stretches to something like 22 inches. I could practically get it over my own head.

Clearly, I screwed up either my math or the decreases in general. I tried to follow Elizabeth Zimmerman's back-and-forth method for raising the back of the neck up, but it didn't quite work out with the number of stitches I had. I'll go back to the shoulders and add more decreases. I'm not sure the whole thing is long enough anyway, so this will help. I did the ribbing normally, and bound off with EZ's sewn stretchy bindoff, which is the only one I've found works for pullover necks. But here it flared out.

Since I'll be redoing it anyway, any suggestions on helping with the floppiness?
- Twisted rib?
- One size smaller needles? (This is what I'll try first.)
- EZ suggests threading small elastic around the neck. Does anyone actually do this? I've seen Grumperina do it for a hat and a shrug, but I've never seen anyone mention doing it for a crew neck.
- Ditch it all and do a roll-neck that hides the whole dang thing? (This will be plan C if plan B doesn't work out.)

Any advice is appreciated.

Cutting to begin soon. I'm not even going to try and pick out a sewn bindoff in Cotton Fleece. Gah.

Sharon:

I had the same problem with a pullover Iceland sweater for myself. I tried smaller needles, larger needles and now it sits in my finishing basket. It has been there for a long time. Let me know what you do.
