Wee socks and knitting up scraps

Still working on Branching Out for C's teacher, a bit over halfway there now. I started out the weekend cleaning off my desk (my parents were coming down for a visit, panic cleaning!), and my "leftover scrap jar" was overflowing with some decent-sized balls left over from socks. How else could I possibly have tidied my desk than to take the leftovers and make tiny socks? Obvious, right? It worked doubly--my leftover jar is no longer boiling over, and I have a new decoration for my wall!

These things are addictive, I tell you. About an hour, maybe? Maybe a bit more, I sort of lose track of time. They're just so darn cute!

Pattern: Wee Tiny Sock Swap Sock, by Emily Ivey of Yarn Miracle (Is it okay not to swap a "wee tiny sock swap" sock? Hmm...)
Yarns: Scraps left over, in order, from these, these, these, and these
Needles: US0
Notes/modifications: I did the ones in Lorna's Laces (farthest left) per the pattern, but thought the toe was a bit nipply (which it also is in the pattern photo, I later realized), so on the other three, I decreased down to six stitches each side, did my usual flipping of the last stitch over the second-to-last on each of the four ends, and kitchenered the eight remaining stitches together.

I'm already making a second one from the Lana Grossa Meilenweit Magico, using a different color combination from the stripe sequence. I'm going to fill up this little clothing line! I made some hangers out of craft wire, but I'm going to look to see if I can find those wee tiny clothespins to hang my wee tiny socks. It's all I can do not to go into my sock stash and cast on for wee tiny socks in yarn I haven't even yet made into big socks! Yipes! My sock yarn stash, such as it is (which is not all that big), may be in danger.

And here are some Magic 28 socks, which will probably eventually go to Dulaan, but I'm not going to make the shipping cutoff for this year. I'll make more things in the coming months, so that I have more to send next year than just one measly pair of socks.

Pattern: Magic 28 Socks (PDF), by Norma of Now Norma Knits.
Yarn: Leftovers from my dad's felted slippers. Knitpicks WOTA in Sapphire Heather and Mist. I did the contrasting heel and toe, not sure if I had enough blue. As it turned out, I had maybe one yard of blue left on one sock, and about half a yard on the other one. Phew! Squeaked it out there. Perfect leftover usage, I couldn't have planned it better.
Needles: US6, but I'll use US5's on my next ones for a bit firmer fabric, I think
Notes/Modifications: I actually don't think I made any! That might be a first. I am in the future going to also make Magic32, Magic36, Magic40, etc. socks, so that Dulaan gets more sizes than just what would fit 4- to 5-year-olds. It's a wonderfully simple pattern! I love it. So fast in worsted weight, too.

So some leftovers and scraps are now gone from my "stash" (are scraps considered stash?), and I have some extremely quick FOs out of them! And seriously, if you have anything useful to do at any time in the near future, DO NOT cast on for a pair of wee tiny socks. They're like crack.

Those little socks are the cutest!

Super-cute socks, wee ones and regular ones!

lisa:

Those socks are wicked cunnin'! I think scraps are stash! The shortest scraps have been going into a yarn ball...not sure what will happen with THAT. I like your toe modification on the wee socks, and the other socks are very nice too. (Why are you sorry for flash shots?)

I just prefer to take photos in natural light, outdoors if possible. I think the color ends up being truer without having to mess with it too much in Photoshop, and I don't like the glare from the flash that inevitably happens because for most knits I have to get close to get detail, and then the flash is too bright.

Those are adorable!

Those are so cute! I have one of those little sock blockers and have been wanting to make some. Now I totally want a little sock line just like that for my cubicle! :D
