Woo hoo, I got some Carrot WOTA generously sent from sillyrabbit, and would you believe that it's the same dyelot as what I had been using? She said she'd had it for a while, and I know that I bought mine at least a year ago. Either we both got it at the same time, or it wasn't in high demand (which may explain why it's been discontinued!). I like orange and really like the color, but maybe there weren't that many of us. Anyway, my Dulaan socks can now be completed, and I'll have some left over (again) for more Dulaan goodies.
On to the FO!
Branching Out is hangin' out on the branches...
This scarf is for C's first-grade teacher. Next week is their last week of school, and it's been a great year. I really appreciate her for being a teacher who enforces the rules and requires focus while still making school and learning fun. C thinks that she will like it and wear it, and I hope so too!
It had to explore all of the branches in the yard, of course...
And it wanted me to take a closeup, too:
Pattern: Branching Out by Susan Pierce Lawrence.
Yarn: Karabella Breeze, color 26, pink (more of a "blush," I'd say); 60% silk, 40% cashmere. I got the yarn from Cookie A in a destash sale that she had a while back. It took one ball exactly, I knit as far as I could. Had just inches left over.
Finished (blocked) size: 67" x 6", 27 repeats of the chart
Needles: US8 / 5 mm
Gauge: About 5 st/in stockinette stitch, it's sort of hard to tell in the lace.
Notes: I really liked this pattern. I never did succeed in fully memorizing every line of the chart, but once I started a row I knew how the rest went. It wasn't too annoying to have to look once in a while.
I commented before that the yarn wasn't as soft as I expected, for being silk and cashmere. It did soften up some and feel less cotton-like after washing, but it's still not as luxurious as I had hoped. Do any of you have any experience with this yarn? I had/have heard nothing but raves about it, so I want to make sure there's nothing I'm missing to bring out the utter softness in it. I did my usual soak in Kookabura wool wash and pinned to block. It is very soft when I rub it on my face, so maybe that's what it's supposed to be like. I might just be expecting too much, it's my first time using a yarn with cashmere in it. Any advice or tips are more than welcome!
So that's one teacher gift out of the way. J has three teachers in his preschool class, and I usually make stretch bracelets for the preschool teachers. Problem is, I can't remember if I did that for Christmas. Doh! I need to figure that out. The preschool goes all year long, so it's not a rush. He probably won't be moving up to the 4yo/pre-K class until August.
Thanks for looking, and thanks again, sillyrabbit, for the wool! Dulaan sock FO coming soon...

That scarf looks amazing! I'm allways surprised at how much you can knit with just one ball of yarn. I can't help you on the feel-part of the yarn. I have some Dutch silk/wool and it feels like cotton as well.

Yay for getting the Carrot WOTA, and wow, even in the same dye lot - that's certainly a coincidence, isn't it? And my gosh, I so love your Branching Out, it looks fantastic! You sure you needed just one skein for that? I'm impressed indeed - that's a real lot of knitting for one skein! And it's beautiful - congratulations!

Very pretty BO. I love that pattern, it's so pretty in so many different yarns, and it's a great knit. This little baby taught me everything I know about reading my own knitting.
Yay for Carrot. So glad you found some.

Hi Janelle, I saw your comment on my blog. I made my Dublin Bay's with 64 stitches and a gauge of 8,5 SPI. They fit perfectly on size 7,5/8,5 feet. Your Dublin Bay's look great too! It's funny to see how different the same colorway of Lorna's Laces can knit up. Jenneke
