Hi, and sorry it's been a week since I posted!
The Cinco de Mayo benefit last week went really really well. It ran smoothly, the band was great, and I think everyone had fun. We had a "Wall of Honor" out front with photos of the women who we're walking for--both breast cancer survivors and those who have lost their battles. I had one of each on the wall. Over the course of the night people attending the party asked about adding names to the wall, so I wrote them out on extra slips of paper, and by the end of the night it was really full. It was amazing and very moving to see how many people are affected by breast cancer. All in all, our team of nine made around $5000, which is a great start towards the almost $20,000 that we as a team need to raise ($2200 each).
Right now, I'm working on emergency knitting!
What you see here is a finished but unblocked sleeve, a sleeve in progress, and edging in progress for a sweater for my mother-in-law. She decided that she'd like a shrug to go over a dress for a wedding...and she leaves May 18! I'm doing the sleeves, edging, and likely the seaming; she's doing the back; and another friend of hers is doing the fronts. A team effort, for sure! I should be able to finish the sleeve cap on the second sleeve tonight. I knit them together on one circular up to the cap decreases. Then I began to worry about running out of yarn (I only have one ball per sleeve), and I figured if I was going to run out, I'd rather do it on only one sleeve than to have knit both of them, so I finished up one by itself. Made it, phew! You can see the small butterfly of yarn left over there at the top.
We're knitting the Sparkle bolero from RYC Classic Style. I really love it and will definitely knit it some day for myself. We're modifying it (of course, don't we all?)--she wanted 3/4 sleeves instead of full length, she didn't want the collar so we're doing the garter stitch edging all around, and she had a single skein of Tilli Thomas Disco Lights that she had chosen specifically to match the dress she's wearing, so I'm using that for the edging. She chose ggh Mystik to go with it, it's shiny and soft and among the loveliest yarns I've had a chance to knit with. Leave it to me to find a way to knit with such luxurious yarns without having to pay for them! LOL. I wasn't sure I'd like knitting the Tilli Thomas with the sequins, but it's not so bad, and the sequins in the yarn are really beautiful when they catch the light, so I don't mind it at all!
In other news, I'm planning something with photos of the boys for grandma and great-grandma Mother's Day gifts, so I took a few. J was his characteristic self:
...to the point that he lost a shoe!

And I did manage to get a good one of both boys:

Wish me luck in finishing MIL's sweater! I'm enjoying it, but will be happy to get back to the Jaywalker re-knitting!

ADORABLE!
Good luck finishing the sweater! What a pretty pattern, and what gorgeous yarn.

Wow! What a project, and in such a rush. Here's to you and finishing it all up, oh, by Wednesday so you'll have a day to breathe before she leaves.
