Once again, it's none of the WIPs I have previously mentioned, but I have another FO, the Santa Cruz hat from the last Magknits (new issue today, woo hoo!). For some reason I've been needing some of these small projects to finish up fast, I think I'm feeling overwhelmed by the scale of some of my other WIPs. M's sweater tops that list. So quick and easy hat for me, and I feel much better!
I love love LOVE this hat. I want to make one in every color. I love the way it fits (with a few minor modifications), and it's the perfect weight for winter in San Diego.
I made this one in stashbusted Knitpicks Wool of the Andes in black, a skein I had left over from the Christmas of the felted clogs. I made the ribbing longer than specified in the pattern, because I like it a bit longer for going over my ears a bit, and I like the look a little better that way. I also made the larger size, 84 stitches, even though I was working in worsted. The pattern says that the finished hat is only 19" so I wanted it bigger, but at first I cast on the recommended 72 stitches for worsted because I tend to be a loose knitter. Only a few inches in, I was clearly making a hat for my 5-year-old niece, so I ripped it and started over with 84. Perfect!
Did I mention that I love this hat?

(excuse the squinty-eyed sun picture, it's really hard to photograph a black hat!)
Pattern: Santa Cruz by Sarah-Hope Parmeter, from the February 2007 Magknits
Yarn: Knitpicks Wool of the Andes in Coal
Needles: US7 (4.5 mm) circular and DPNs
Modifications: A few more rows of ribbing at the cuff, and I used 84 stitches instead of 72.

Cute hat! You look adorable. I did not know you would even need a hat in SD!

That looks great on you! It fits too, which is always a bonus in a hat. Nothing is as embarrassing as having to chase down a hat that fell off your head while you're crossing the street. It's dangerous too.
