FOs: Funfur hats

Kate posted about the pediatric cancer ward at Children's Hospital of Boston. "Pediatric" and "cancer" are two words that just shouldn't belong together. But the truth is that there are kids struggling every day to fight against the cancer that wants to take over their small bodies. Part of that fight for many of them is losing their hair. They need hats, and they asked for hats made from fun fur. Now, I will admit to having some fun fur in my stash. I usually knit it into boa scarves to add into birthday gifts for little girls. But the image of these sick kids enjoying so much their new "hair" in wild and crazy colors made me email Kate as soon as I read her request for knitters to whip some up. I cast on as soon as I got her email with some patterns to choose from.

Clockwise from left: LB Fun Fur Stripes, 2 x Fun Fur solid with Fun Fur Print cuffs, Fun fur cuff on a hat made with Caron Charming

I've made four so far, and have a bit more fur left. I'll send these off tomorrow, just to make sure that they make it to Kate by the deadline of Feb. 28.

Kids with cancer. It sucks.

But knitters with heart rock. This is such a fantastic thing to do -- and I just saw Fun Fur for $2 a skein at Michael's. No more dis'ing the fun fur -- it has a great purpose in life!

lisa:

Those are pretty funny! I have only a little in my stash and made a couple of hats. They are STRETCHY! I may end up getting some fun color to make another. But I do have something really soft and colorful that I could put ff on the brim, like you did.
