Nothin' but WIPs

I have nothing actually done to show, but thought I'd show what I've been working on, because I'm pretty excited.

First, I swatched for the Adirondack Sweater for M, in Knitpicks Swish. It's in the washer as I type. I measured the gauge beforehand, and I'll see how much it changes. I've heard that the Swish shrinks row-wise, so I want to make sure I knit the thing long enough.

ETA: Wow, they were sure right! Row gauge changed from 14 rows/2" to 17 rows/2". Yikes!

Second, I've finally started my Icarus. I wasn't planning on doing it in a variegated yarn, but when I saw the kit at the Knitting Hutch, I somewhat impulsively bought it with my birthday money. I thought that the warm fire-y hues of the silk yarn fit well with the Icarus story, and I really really love the colors. Since this shawl does have columns of plain stocking stitch, I'm not *quite* as worried about the yarn distracting from the pattern. I like the way the columns are coming out in the variegated yarn.

Hi Janelle! I got your guesses for my contest, thanks. The ADK is a nice looking sweater! I made one sort of similar...but plainer ribs, bottom up and pieced, and drop shoulders. It's the raggsock raglan in "Knitting with a smile"...I've made 2. Very cool that you can knit upside down. I had done a bit on the bike at the gym, but the most recent is a problem child and 6 am knitting didn't help. I've started swimming again, and I was up and back in the pool on my back w/out my arms and I was thinking...I could knit...but then, oops, I was in WATER... Your Icarus is very nice too.

Thanks for the results on the Swish. I'm thinking of using Swish on some baby stuff--it's always good to know these things! :)

Batty:

Love the way your shawl looks! I agree, warm tones are perfect for Icarus (if a bit ironic). Can't wait to see the FO!

You make nice swatches. You wash them. You are such a good knitter! I'm cheap and chronically afraid that I'm going to run out of yarn if I make a big swatch. It causes a lot of trouble, I should get over it.

Batty, I fully admit that I never used to swatch, either. My first "real" swatch was for the kid sweater Reid from Knitty, and that was because everyone on the Knittyboard said that it was coming out huge. I swatched, and did have to go down a size to get it to fit.

For this one, I especially wanted to check because I had heard that the Swish shrinks.
::Full disclosure...
this is the first swatch I've ever washed!
::End full disclosure

I figure I'll probably unravel my swatch to use the pre-washed yarn for seaming, if I wash the pieces before I finish. Otherwise, maybe I'll keep it? I don't know. Every other swatch I've ever made I've unraveled it immediately, to use for casting on.

Love the Icarus. But in even more good news, you won the contest on my blog. Email me your address and I'll send you some yarn!

Pam:

Janelle, I love your variegated yarn for Icarus. I made a sweater once with a similar lace pattern out of a variegated yarn -- the "lines" of color show off some nice things about a simple lace pattern.

Hey, this is Stacey over at Moonlight Knitter! Thanks for the comments on my blog! As far as the swift, just go in and Buy one, but do not pay for it right away! In the comment put blogiversary special, and I will send you an updated total for the purchase!
Thanks!
